In the morning, we drove to Aptos for the Mass. I got to meet the Grandma Lourdes for the first time (Mr Coon's step-mom). She is very small. It also was the first Catholic funeral I ever attended. It is very physical...up and down and up, etc.
After the Mass we went to the burial. Grandpa was a retired Navy Man and ranked high enough to be barred in this government owned site. The site is in a VERY secluded mountaines area none of knew existed.
Military people spoke, shots were fired, and a bugle was played. The bugle playing really got to Joel and I. Since we couldn't go to the area where Grandpa's coffin was lowered, we got to stand on a top of a hill and watch while they lowered him down.
Today, happened to be Josh's 21st birthday. After the funeral, we drove back to Santa Clara and celebrated his birthday the Claims Jumper restaurant. It was some good eatin',too.
It was a long day for all of us.
