Camping, Garage Sale, Volunteering, and Pool

This past week I was extremely busy with life.

For my best friend's birthday I reserved a camp site at Big Basin, which I have never been too before. It was a last minute kind of trip so I didn't get to do as much research regarding the campsite as I would have liked. Justin, Sarah, Jeremy, Amber, Ellah, Shannon and me all made it out to camp. We were camping all day 14th, 15th, and half day on the 16th (I had a mandatory Domestic Violence training I had to go to for work at 1:00 pm). Our campsite was close the restroom, but close to a stale stream which attracted mosquitoes galore. I'm okay with bugs normally, but this infestation was overwhelming and we didn't have the proper repellent the first day. Big Basin is not that far from civilization so we found comfort from our bug infested site and went to Natural Bridges in Santa Cruz on Thursday and bought a citronella candle and mosquito coils to defend us from the bugs. When we were not eating , we played board games: Apples to Apples, Swap, Loaded questions, and 5 card stud.

Our first night camping, our food got attacked by raccoons, which kept most of us up because we were afraid they might attack us. They ended up stealing a carton of eggs and leaving eggshells everywhere around our site. The next day on our way to Natural Bridges we stopped by a little cove of water from the San Lorenzo River, it was nice with a swing and all. We ended up going to Natural Bridges for some sun and water fun, but it was very crowded with kids from a field trip, but I laid out and got darker. It was fun camping with such a different crowd of people.

When I got back from camping on Friday, I immediately unloaded and put my gear away. I got ready for work, so there was no time to rest. I went to my training, which was very informational and fun because I sat by my friends. Afterwards, I had to drive to Morgan Hill to do volunteering at Saint Louse Regional Hospital at the Chiala Estate. The house was gorgeously set up and the vendors were giving away free wine and food. There was a live auction and different other ways to win trips and such. I got to do registering which consisted of signing up people's credit cards for any purchases made at the auction and to make sure they are registered to attend the event. It was really nice to give my time to the hospital where my friend's mom works at. The hospital just opened up an ER and 12 additional rooms.

On Saturday, I had a garage sale at the McGirts. I made $35 dollars off of my stuff. I got rid of 4 paper bags worth of junk plus a camp stove which my friend at work gave me. It was so HOT outside. Luckily, my friend had a canopy and a fan out for us. I ended up taking all of the left over of the McGirts and my stuff over to a Goodwill Truck to donate. It always feels good to get rid of stuff in my apartment. I don't have a lot of room for storage so getting rid of stuff with or without a profit is always a good feeling.

On Sunday, Joel and I just chilled took a nap, and in the evening Josh and Sarah came over. We ended up eating, watching some TV, and after we jumped in our pool and jacuzzi. It is always nice to spend time with those two, they are good company and we get a long so well. They are going to be coming over Thursday for more swimming so hopefully it is hot.

Hey Chiquita Banana!! The first thing the park rangers tell you, upon check-in, is to lock your food in the your vehicle at night or when not around. The coons are way smarter than your average bear. ;-)

I was just up there three weeks ago for a three night campout. The weather was perfect as was the scenery & the hiking. I stayed at the Semper Virens Campground. The campsite butted up against the creek, & yes, the skeeters were a bit of a nuisance, but just a little. Glad you had a good time though.
